Is Your Accounting Program Ready for a CPA Evolution?
Meghann Cefaratti, Ph.D., CIA, CRMA is the Deloitte Professor of Accountancy in the Department of Accountancy at Northern Illinois University where she teaches internal auditing, assurance services, and financial reporting. She earned her Ph.D. in Accounting from Virginia Tech, and her research interests include internal auditing, fraud risk, information systems and cybersecurity, and judgment and decision-making in auditing contexts. Dr. Cefaratti’s research has been published in Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Forensic Accounting Research, Internal Auditor, Internal Auditing, the ISACA Journal, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems. She serves on Wiley’s CPA Evolution Task Force and is an author with Wiley CPA Review. Dr. Cefaratti is the academic member of the Illinois CPA Society’s Audit and Assurance Services Committee, and she serves as a member of the editorial board for Issues in Accounting Education.
Dr. Kimberly Swanson Church, Missouri State University

Dr. Kimberly Swanson Church is the BKD Professor of Leadership & Director for the School of Accountancy at Missouri State University. Kimberly teaches in the area of managerial and accounting information systems with an emphasis in data analytics and emerging technologies. She has two decades of entrepreneurial and higher education experiences, including more than ten years in academic leadership roles within the American Accounting Association (AIS & TLC sections), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA Evolution BAR Taskforce Co-Chair & APBP initiative trainer) and the Institute of Management Accountants. Kimberly is a national award-winning educator for her many classroom innovations using experiential learning techniques that best reflect real-world application of accounting concepts, including the George Krull/Grant Thornton, Jim Bulloch, Mark Chain/FSA and Bea Sanders/AICPA (honorable mention) teaching innovation awards. Her teaching and research interests include information systems, management accounting and disruptive technology implications for theory and practice. She has published many academic and practitioner articles, won several best paper awards and her articles have appeared in Accounting Horizons, Journal of Information Systems, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education, BizEd and Strategic Finance. Most recently, she was named the 2021 MOCPA [Missouri] Educator of the Year.
Dr. Yvonne L. Hinson, CPA, CGMA, CEO, American Accounting Association

Going Forward at the AAA
Yvonne Hinson, PhD, CPA, CGMA, is the CEO of the American Accounting Association. Prior to assuming this role in September 2020, she served as the Academic in Residence for the Association of international Certified Professional Accountants. She began her accounting career with Arthur Andersen in Charlotte, NC. After returning to the University of Tennessee to pursue her Ph.D., Yvonne accepted a position with Wake Forest University. During her over 18-year career at Wake Forest University she served as a faculty member, Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Accountancy and Dean of Charlotte Programs. Yvonne has served on numerous academic and community committees and nonprofit Boards and is a past President of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy and past Chair of the AAA Membership Advisory Committee. She is currently a member of the KPMG PhD Project Board, the Federal Government’s Cost Accounting Standards Board, the AACSB Accounting Accreditation Committee, the AACSB Accounting Accreditation Policy Committee and the IFAC Accounting Education Panel. Her research has been published in both academic and practitioner journals. She earned her BS in accounting and MBA from UNC-Charlotte.
Karen K. Osterheld, CPA, American Accounting Association

Going Forward at the AAA
Karen Osterheld is the Senior Director of the Center for Advancing Accounting Education at the American Accounting Association (AAA). In this role, she is responsible for the identification, development and dissemination of best practices and innovations in accounting education across the academy.
Prior to joining the AAA, Karen was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy at Bentley University and was a full-time member of the faculty for 31 years. During her tenure at Bentley, Karen primarily taught introductory and intermediate accounting. Karen was also responsible for the academic internship program for undergraduate and graduate students in the department.
In 2003, Karen received the Joseph M. Cronin Award for Excellence in Academic Advising at Bentley. In 2008, she was nominated Faculty Member of the Year by the student body. She has also won two Bentley University Innovation in Teaching Awards and the Bentley University Service-Learning Award.
Karen has chaired the AAA Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting and served as the President of the Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Section of the AAA.
Karen started her professional career at Arthur Young in Boston and has eleven years of business experience, primarily as a manager in the financial services industry. She earned her B.S. Degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Albany and her M.B.A. Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Massachusetts.
