Less Time Searching, More Time Thinking: AI Tools for Academic Research

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to support the research process to increase efficiency and effectiveness of time dedicated to tasks such as literature discovery, synthesis, and academic writing. This session focuses on practical AI-enabled tools that help scholars identify relevant research streams, understand citation relationships, and improve clarity and consistency in scholarly writing.

Participants will see demonstrations of tools such as Connected Papers, Unriddle, and Writefull, along with discussion of other platforms that assist with literature mapping, article summarization, and citation context. The session emphasizes responsible and transparent AI use aligned with academic norms.

Attendees will leave with concrete ideas for integrating AI tools into their research workflow to improve efficiency, broaden literature coverage, and support high-quality scholarly output.

Learning Objective(s): 1.Identify AI-enabled research tools that support literature discovery, mapping, and synthesis in accounting and related disciplines.
2.Explain how AI tools can improve research efficiency without compromising scholarly judgment or methodological rigor.
3.Evaluate ethical considerations and best practices for using AI as a research support tool (e.g., transparency, citation integrity, and human oversight).
4.Develop a personalized research workflow that incorporates AI tools for literature review and idea development.
