How far can we trust AI in the accounting profession and in research?

This webinar aims to discuss the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in accounting by integrating theoretical foundations, practical applications, and emerging ethical challenges. From a theoretical perspective, the seminar introduces the conceptual relationship between data, models, and decision-making, highlighting how AI and data science combine statistics, computational methods, and business knowledge to extract insights from large datasets and support accounting analysis. In practical terms, the webinar explores how AI technologies, such as machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and generative AI, are increasingly applied to accounting research and professional practice. Finally, the webinar addresses ethical and governance issues associated with AI adoption, including algorithmic bias, transparency, data privacy, reliability of automated outputs, accountability, and the continued responsibility of accountants as researchers and professionals.

Learning Objective(s): 1. To understand how AI models are trained and operate in accounting contexts. 2. To evaluate the reliability and limitations of AI models. 3. To discuss practical, ethical, and governance issues in AI adoption in accounting.
