2017 ABO Doctoral Consortium

The Accounting, Behavior, and Organizations Section of the AAA is pleased to announce its twelfth Doctoral Consortium. The Consortium will be held in conjunction with the Annual ABO Research Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 5-7, 2017. The Consortium is designed for PhD students interested in conducting behavioral research. New faculty (i.e., those less than three years post PhD) will also be considered for the Consortium, space permitting.

The Consortium will commence with a reception on Thursday, October 5 from 5:00-7:00 pm. The Consortium will take place the morning of Friday, October 6 (immediately prior to the ABO Research Conference). Expert researchers will present talks on how to conduct and publish high-quality research, as well as how they manage an academic career. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions and interact with the presenters.

The Consortium is free for student members of the AAA (although students need not be members of the ABO section). For student members, Conference registration is then $50 and includes breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday, as well as early-evening receptions on Thursday and Friday. In addition, the ABO section will pay for two nights at the conference hotel (Thursday and Friday nights) for up to 30 PhD student participants. Preference will be given to students who did not receive free hotel rooms at the 2016 ABO Conference. Please note: Students receiving free rooms will share a room with another student participant; with hotel pairings made by the ABO. For new faculty attending the Consortium, the standard Conference registration fee and accommodation costs apply.

For students receiving the hotel subsidy, the cost of the Consortium and Conference will be $50; you are then responsible for any transportation and dinner costs from Thursday to Saturday. Thus, attending the Consortium and Conference is a very affordable opportunity for students.

To apply to attend the Consortium, PhD students and new faculty should send the completed Application via email to ABODoctoral2017@unsw.edu.au by Monday, July 31. We will process qualifying applications in the order they are received; with only those doctoral students attending the Consortium for the first time being eligible to apply for a hotel accommodation subsidy. Please ensure you apply early, since space at the Consortium is limited. You will be notified on August 14 whether you have been accepted to participate.

With respect to the Conference, PhD students will need to register and pay the $50 student member registration fee, even if they are accepted for the Consortium. New faculty accepted for the Consortium will also need to register for the Conference separately and pay the standard Conference fee.

The ABO Doctoral Consortium provides an exciting opportunity for bringing together new and established behavioral researchers to exchange research ideas and career experiences. We do hope that you will join us this October.
