2018 Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium
"Auditing Scholarship"
Thursday, January 11, 2018
The Hilton Portland & Executive Tower • Portland, Oregon
Thank you to KPMG Foundation for generously supporting the Auditing Section Midyear Meeting and Doctoral Consortium!
The Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association, through the generous support of KPMG LLP, is sponsoring the Annual Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium on Thursday, January 11, 2018. The Consortium will be held at The Hilton Portland & Executive Tower in Portland, Oregon in conjunction with the Auditing Section's Midyear Conference (to be held January 12-13, 2018). The purpose of the Consortium is to stimulate students' research by exposing them to the latest ideas from leading researchers in auditing, and by providing opportunities for networking with other Ph.D. students interested in auditing, established auditing researchers, and journal editors.
Doctoral Student Eligibility
All Ph.D. students who have an interest in auditing research are eligible to apply but because interest has exceeded capacity in the past, invitations will be issued after applications are processed. Priority will be given to students who did not attend the consortium in past years and if there are more than two applicants from a school, the PhD coordinator will be asked to rank order the candidates. Students who attend the Consortium are eligible to receive up to two years of complimentary membership in the Auditing Section and in the AAA.
Doctoral Student Registration Information
There is no cost to apply or, if selected, to attend the Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium. Any student wishing to attend must complete the application process. The deadline for Consortium applications is October 31, 2017. The organizers will issue invitations to attend by November 14 and alternates will also be notified in case any invited students decide not to attend. To apply for an invitation to the Consortium, complete the online application. You can access the application here: application is closed.
Please note that the application for the Consortium is separate from registration for the Auditing Section Midyear Conference which follows the Consortium. Students wishing to register for the Midyear Conference should do so by completing the separate conference registration form by December 11, 2017. The Midyear Conference registration fee is $200 for AAA student members.
Hotel Accommodations and Information
Students who attend the Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium are eligible to receive either (i) a complimentary one-night, single-occupancy accommodation at The Hilton Portland & Executive Tower on Wednesday night (January 10) or (ii) a two-night, double-occupancy accommodation at The Hilton Portland & Executive Tower on Wednesday and Thursday nights (January 10-11). These accommodations will be reimbursed AFTER the conference, provided that the student attends the consortium for the full day and stays at the conference hotel.
Students should make their reservations directly with the hotel and will need to provide a credit card number to the hotel. A maximum of two students can stay in one hotel room. NOTE: Students sharing a room must provide both names to the hotel when making reservations. The deadline for hotel reservations is December 11 but we cannot guarantee that any additional rooms will be available in the hotel once our block of rooms is sold out, even if the block is sold out before the deadline, so we advise making your hotel reservations early. If a student is unable to attend the meeting, the hotel reservations must be cancelled in advance to avoid a penalty.
Consortium Cancellation Policy
Students must cancel their Consortium registration if unable to attend. This will allow another student who is wait-listed to attend the Consortium. To cancel a registration for the Consortium, please notify, via email, the AAA (info@aaahq.org) and Jackie Hammersley (jhammers@uga.edu) as early as possible.
Americans with Disabilities Act
The American Accounting Association intends to comply fully with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Any members planning to attend this consortium and or the Midyear Conference who have special needs, as covered by the ADA, are requested to notify Peggy Turczyn at the American Accounting Association, (peggy@aaahq.org) or 941-556-4114, to facilitate identification and accommodation of these needs by the Association.
Auditing Doctoral Consortium Program Schedule and Other Meeting Information
Breakfast and lunch will be provided during the Consortium, and there will be a reception on Thursday evening following the Consortium. For additional information about the Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium contact Jackie Hammersley (jhammers@uga.edu).
