Laura A. Hay, CPA, is the Executive Vice President for The Ohio Society of CPAs.  In her role, Hay provides enterprise-wide leadership in the areas of strategy and planning, and drives thought leadership activities to and for the accounting profession, including responsibility for technical services (peer review, professional ethics and accounting & auditing services), The Ohio CPA Foundation, pipeline and content and media. Hay has been associated with OSCPA since 1992.  Prior to joining The Ohio Society, Hay was a senior auditor with Price Waterhouse in Columbus, then taught introductory accounting at Indiana University while pursuing graduate studies.  Hay obtained her undergraduate degree with honors from Miami University, and is a member of The Ohio Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, the American Society of Association Executives and the Ohio Society of Association Executives.

 


Gail Hoover King, Washburn University

Practical Guidelines for Designing Your Data Analytics Course/Curricula

Gail Hoover King earned her doctorate from the Northern Illinois University College of Business in Business Education focusing on accounting and finance with a minor in instructional technology. At Washburn University, she has developed the Data Analytics course for the School of Business Core Curriculum and chairs the committee developing the data analytics concentration.  Before joining the faculty at Washburn University, she was a tenured Accounting Professor at Purdue University Northwest prior to this at Rockhurst University.

Her scholarship focuses on student learning, pedagogical innovation, and assessment.  She has won multiple awards including 2017 Jim Bulloch Award for Innovations in Management Accounting Education sponsored by the IMA, 2017 Mark Chain Innovation in Graduate Teaching Award from the AICPA/Federation of Schools of Accountancy, and 2016 Bea Sanders/AICPA Innovation in Teaching Award Honorable Mention.  In 2017 she received the 2017 National Association of State Board of Accountancy Accounting Education Research Grant. Recently, she was recognized for her service to the American Accounting Association Teaching Learning and Curriculum Section with the 2019 Hall of Honors Award.

Currently, she sits on the American Accounting Association’s Education Committee, the IMA Kansas City Chapter Board of Directors and the Support KC Board of Directors and Audit Committee.   Gail past chair of the Conference on Teaching and Learning Accounting and serves on the Colloquium Program Committee of the Teaching Learning and Curriculum Section.   She also served as a Commissioner for the Pathways Commission on the Future of Accounting Education.  In practice, she was a financial accountant in the oil and gas industry, a cost accountant and assistant financial analyst for a manufacturing company, and a consultant for nonprofit organizations.

 


David M. Stott, Ohio University

David M. Stott joined the Ohio University faculty in 2016 and serves as the Director of the School of Accountancy and the O’Bleness Professor of Accountancy.  He previously served as the Director of Graduate Programs in Accounting and Chair of the Department of Accounting and MIS at Bowling Green State University where he held the Maurer Family Distinguished Professorship in Accounting

Dr. Stott received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Texas State University and both his Master of Accountancy and Ph.D. degrees from Washington State University. He initially received his CPA certificate in Texas and is currently certified and licensed to practice in Ohio. Dr. Stott's research and teaching interests are primarily in financial accounting and reporting, auditing, and the conceptual framework. His research has appeared in Accounting Horizons, the Journal of Accounting, Ethics and Public Policy, Management Accounting Quarterly, the Journal of Accounting Education, International Journal of Auditing and the American Journal of Business.

Dr. Stott is active in both academic and professional organizations. He is a member of the American Accounting Association (Past Council Chair), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Before returning to academia, he spent several years working for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Houston (leaving well before the Enron debacle!).  David and his wife Ann have two wonderful adult children – Randi and Michael.
