Call for Submissions – Diversity

The AAA will be using Attendee Interactive as it's new submission system. If you encounter any problems or have any questions during the submission process, email SubmissionsSystem@aaahq.org.

Submission deadline is 11:59 pm on Monday, July 10, 2023

You are invited to the 2023 Joint Meeting of the Diversity and Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Sections to be held at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda in Bethesda, MD, October 20-21, 2023.

The conference will host sessions that explore a broad scope of traditional and non-traditional accounting research topics as well as topics relevant to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

We will be accepting submissions in the form of:

  • Papers
  • Panel Discussions
  • Emerging Research
  • Doctoral Student Road Paper Pitches

Areas for Submissions: Papers and panels are welcomed in areas of accounting including financial, managerial, tax, audit, systems, practice, education, etc. using any methodology (such as archival, experimental, interview-based, survey-based, etc.). Research focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues and non-traditional accounting issues are of great interest for the audience. Submissions to the Diversity Section meeting may have been submitted to the American Accounting Association annual meeting or other sectional/regional meetings but should not have been accepted for publication or published before the 2022 Diversity Section meeting.

The mid-year meeting program will be structured around submissions accepted for presentation. In addition, this call for papers is also a call for persons to serve as submission reviewers and session moderators.

Submission Instructions
Submission instruction will be forthcoming.

Paper Sessions
Paper Sessions provide an opportunity for researchers to present early-stage or more developed papers in an open dialogue setting followed by a discussion period with audience members. We will continue the tradition of a workshop-style presentation with no discussants.

Panel Sessions
Panel Sessions focus on a topic of interest, relevance, or a research area.  If you have an idea for a panel discussion and would like to moderate that panel, submit your proposed topic, panel members and brief description (up to 300 words).

Emerging Research Sessions
Emerging Research Sessions are designed to allow scholars (especially junior faculty and doctoral students) to submit proposals and receive feedback on the theory and/or research design prior to collecting data. Proposals in this category should have clearly stated research question(s), a well-developed theory, and hypotheses based on the relevant literature in the area (an expanded Kinney 3-Paragraph model). Emerging research proposals should not exceed five (5) double-spaced pages. Proposals can have an academic, practitioner or pedagogical focus.

Accepted submissions obligate the author (or at least one co-author) to register for the meeting and present the paper at its scheduled time. Additionally, authors are highly encouraged to volunteer as reviewers and/or moderators. Volunteer information will be posted soon.

Important Dates:
Submission Due Date:  Monday, July 10, 2023.
Acceptances Emailed extended to Monday, August 28, 2023.
