Learning Objectives: Given the emergence of more advanced technology, both external and internal auditors are increasingly using data analytic tools and incorporating Big Data into various phases of the audit process. Specifically audit data analytic tools are being used to perform risk assessments, analytical procedures and other substantive tests. Thus, Big Data and the use of data analytics is dramatically changing the traditional way of auditing and the skills and competencies that will be required of auditors. Therefore, it is imperative that we prepare our students to operate in a more data driven audit environment. The purpose of the 2019 Excellence in Auditing Education Workshop is to develop the necessary data analytic and technology skills in today’s students and early-career professionals by bringing together auditing academics and practitioners to explore innovative methods of incorporating Big Data and audit data analytics in the classroom.
