"Fostering Innovation and Rigor in Audit Research"
January 14, 2016
DoubleTree Resort by Hilton-Paradise Valley Scottsdale, Arizona
The Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association, through the generous support of KPMG LLP, is sponsoring the Annual Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium on January 14, 2016. The Consortium will be held at the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton-Paradise Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona in conjunction with the Auditing Section's Mid-Year Conference (to be held January 15-16, 2016). The purpose of the Consortium is to stimulate students' research by exposing them to the latest ideas from leading researchers in auditing, and by providing opportunities for networking with other Ph.D. students interested in auditing, established auditing researchers, and current and incoming journal editors.
Doctoral Student Eligibility
All Ph.D. students who have an interest in auditing research are eligible to apply to attend the Consortium. In the past, the Consortium has been over-subscribed. As a result, reservations will no longer be first-come-first-served. Rather, students will be asked to indicate their interest in attending. Priority will be given to students who did not attend the 2015 consortium. In the event that there are more than two applicants from a school, we will contact the PhD coordinator to give a rank order of the candidates. Once the pool of interested candidates has been identified, the Consortium organizers will issue invitations to individual students based on factors such as prior years’ attendance and the number of students attending from a given school. Students who attend the Consortium will receive up to two years of complimentary membership in the Auditing Section and the AAA.
Doctoral Student Registration Information
There is no cost to apply or, if selected, to attend the Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium. Any student wishing to attend must complete the application process. The deadline for consortium applications is November 2. The organizers will issue invitations to attend by November 15. Alternates will also be notified in case any invited students decide not to attend. To apply for an invitation to the Consortium, complete the PDF application form and email it to jjoe@udel.edu .
Please note that the application for the Consortium is separate from registration for the Auditing Section Mid-Year Conference (January 15-16) which follows the Consortium. Students wishing to register for the Mid-Year Conference can do so by completing the conference registration form by Monday, December 14, 2015. The Mid-Year Conference registration fee is $200 for AAA student members.
Hotel Accommodations and Information
Students who attend the Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium are eligible to receive either (i) a complimentary one-night, single-occupancy accommodation at the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton-Paradise Valley on Wednesday night (January 13) or (ii) a two-night, double-occupancy accommodation at the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton-Paradise Valley on Wednesday and Thursday nights (January 13-14). These accommodations will be reimbursed AFTER the conference, provided that the student attends the consortium for the full day and stays at the conference hotel.
Students should make their reservations directly with the hotel and will need to provide a credit card number to the hotel. A maximum of two students can stay in one hotel room. NOTE: students who share a room should provide both names to the hotel when making reservations. The deadline for hotel reservations is December 14. We cannot guarantee that any additional rooms will be available in the hotel once our block of rooms is sold out, even if the block is sold out before the deadline. If a student is unable to attend the meeting, the hotel reservations must be cancelled in advance to avoid a penalty.
Consortium Cancellation Policy
Students must cancel their Consortium registration if unable to attend. This will allow another student who is wait-listed to attend the Consortium. To cancel registration for the Consortium, please notify, via email, the AAA (info@aaahq.org) and Jennifer Joe (jjoe@udel.edu) as early as possible.
Americans with Disabilities Act
The American Accounting Association intends to comply fully with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Any members planning to attend this consortium and or the Mid-Year Conference who have special needs, as covered by the ADA, are requested to notify Peggy Turczyn at the American Accounting Association, (peggy@aaahq.org) or 941-556-4114, to facilitate identification and accommodation of these needs by the Association.
Auditing Doctoral Consortium Program Schedule and Other Meeting Information
