Nominations Are Closed

Doctoral Consortium Nomination Process
The Financial Accounting & Reporting Section (FARS) Doctoral Consortium will be held in person from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, January 20, 2022, in Denver, Colorado at the Hilton City Center prior to the FARS Midyear Meeting. In order to attend, students must be nominated by their doctoral-granting schools. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

To encourage doctoral student attendance, FARS does not charge a registration fee to attend the Doctoral Consortium. However, individual participants are responsible for their own transportation, accommodation, and other expenses. In addition, if participants are interested in attending the FARS Midyear Meeting, they should register for, and pay related fees to attend, the FARS Midyear Meeting.

There are a small number of need-based scholarships available from FARS. Along with the Consortium nomination, the doctoral program chair (not the PhD student) should submit a letter of interest in one of these scholarships to Mary Hill, Scholarship Committee Chair, mary.hill@kennesaw.edu . The letter should include written justification of the respective Consortium candidate’s need (e.g., by estimating the expected travel costs and attesting to the amount of the candidate’s annual travel budget). Scholarship funds will then be allocated by a separate scholarship committee.

In prior years, demand has exceeded capacity. Nominating a student does NOT ensure participation in the 2022 FARS Doctoral Consortium. Nominations will be reviewed, and applicants will receive notification of being accepted or waitlisted. Please note the new date is now October 29, 2021. Thank you.

Student Eligibility
The Consortium is open to accounting Ph.D. students from doctoral-granting institutions who have a primary interest in financial accounting research. Students may be at any stage in their program, although students in the second or third years of doctoral study will receive the greatest benefit. We expect to be able to accommodate one student per university. However, program chairs may nominate a second student and rank order the two students on the nomination form. Second-ranked students will be considered as space permits. Students who have previously attended the consortium are eligible to be nominated for this year’s consortium.
