Barbara Benton, Vice President, Government Relations has led OSCPA’s lobbying efforts at the state and federal levels over 30 years, including managing The Ohio Society’s PAC, grassroots, and endorsement programs. Prior to joining OSCPA she was a legislative aide in the Ohio Senate.

Barbara is a past president of the Ohio Lobbying Association, a recipient of OLA’s President’s Award for contributions to the profession and was the national recipient of the American Society of Association Executive’s 2019 Professional Performance Award.


Dr. Yvonne L. Hinson, CPA, CGMA, CEO, American Accounting Association

Yvonne Hinson, PhD, CPA, CGMA, is the CEO of the American Accounting Association. Prior to assuming this role in September 2020, she served as the Academic in Residence for the Association of international Certified Professional Accountants.  She began her accounting career with Arthur Andersen in Charlotte, NC.  After returning to the University of Tennessee to pursue her Ph.D., Yvonne accepted a position with Wake Forest University.  During her over 18-year career at Wake Forest University she served as a faculty member, Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Accountancy and Dean of Charlotte Programs. Yvonne has served on numerous academic and community committees and nonprofit Boards and is a past President of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy and past Chair of the AAA Membership Advisory Committee. She is currently a member of the KPMG PhD Project Board, the Federal Government’s Cost Accounting Standards Board, the AACSB Accounting Accreditation Committee, the AACSB Accounting Accreditation Policy Committee and the IFAC Accounting Education Panel. Her research has been published in both academic and practitioner journals.  She earned her BS in accounting and MBA from UNC-Charlotte.


Karen K. Osterheld, CPA, American Accounting Association

Going Forward at the AAA


Karen Osterheld is the Senior Director of the Center for Advancing Accounting Education at the American Accounting Association (AAA). In this role, she is responsible for the identification, development and dissemination of best practices and innovations in accounting education across the academy.

Prior to joining the AAA, Karen was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy at Bentley University and was a full-time member of the faculty for 31 years. During her tenure at Bentley, Karen primarily taught introductory and intermediate accounting. Karen was also responsible for the academic internship program for undergraduate and graduate students in the department.

In 2003, Karen received the Joseph M. Cronin Award for Excellence in Academic Advising at Bentley. In 2008, she was nominated Faculty Member of the Year by the student body. She has also won two Bentley University Innovation in Teaching Awards and the Bentley University Service-Learning Award.

Karen has chaired the AAA Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting and served as the President of the Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Section of the AAA.

Karen started her professional career at Arthur Young in Boston and has eleven years of business experience, primarily as a manager in the financial services industry. She earned her B.S. Degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Albany and her M.B.A. Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Massachusetts.
