Welcome to the 2026 International Accounting Section’s 22nd Annual PhD/New Faculty Consortium
The International Accounting Section (IAS) PhD/New Faculty Consortium, partially funded by the KPMG Foundation, will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio (see https://downtowncincinnati.com/). Cincinnati (airport code CVG) is easy to reach from many airports in the U.S. and there are even direct flights available from some airports in Europe, including London Heathrow (LHR) and Charles de Gaulle (CDG).
The consortium program will consist of invited talks from senior faculty and panel sessions so PhD students and new faculty are encouraged to apply even if they do not yet have research projects underway. Consortium attendees who wish to present their own research should submit their working papers to the 2026 IAS Midyear Meeting following the regular submission process.
Note that the consortium will run from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on Thursday and participants are required to attend the 2026 IAS Midyear Meeting that on Friday and Saturday.
To apply to attend the consortium, which is free of charge for accepted participants, simply complete the application form below by Monday, October 20, 2025 Extended to Monday, October 27, 2025. Capacity is limited so please submit your application as soon as possible. You will receive a decision email by Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the latest.
Attendance is subject to approval by the consortium organizers. PhD students and new faculty (those within 3 years of graduation) are encouraged to apply.
Note that you must be an American Accounting Association (AAA) member and a member of the International Accounting Section (IAS) to apply to attend the consortium. PhD students and new faculty who have not yet joined the AAA and IAS can purchase a membership at: https://aaahq.org/Membership. Special rates are available for PhD students. If you are a AAA member but not an IAS member, you can join the IAS at: https://aaahq.org/Membership. Be sure to do this before applying to the consortium because you will need your AAA Member Number to complete the consortium application form.
Midyear Meeting Fees and Hotel Information
Up to 20 accepted PhD students will have the 2026 IAS Midyear Meeting fee waived and the IAS will cover lodging at the conference hotel for one night (either Wednesday or Thursday night) at the rate of $149 per night plus taxes and fees. Additional PhD students who are accepted to attend the consortium will be required to pay for their own lodging and to attend the Midyear Meeting but will have consortium fees waived. Hotel accommodations will be reimbursed by AAA AFTER the Midyear Meeting, provided that the student attends the consortium and the full Midyear Meeting. Accepted new faculty will have their consortium fees waived but will be required to pay for their own lodging as well as the Midyear Meeting fee.
Consortium attendees should make their hotel reservations directly with the hotel and will need to provide a credit card number at the time of booking. The deadline for hotel reservations is December 8, 2025, but we cannot guarantee that additional rooms will be available once our block of rooms is sold out, even if this happens before the deadline. If a participant is unable to attend the consortium and Midyear Meeting, they must cancel the hotel reservation in advance to avoid a cancellation penalty.
Travel to and from the consortium and Midyear Meeting are not sponsored by the IAS.
